The Subaru BRZ & Toyota 86 were both released in 2012 and quickly became one of the hottest cars and was voted as Wheels Car of the Year 2012. It instantly became a fan favourite amongst car enthusiasts and street racers.
Not only was the 86 a pleasure to drive, it was highly affordable for the performance it was putting out and the style it was offering. The 86 is considered a compact, front-engine, rear-drive coupe and 149KW 200HP motor.
It was considered by many car enthusiasts as the kind of cars that Toyota had forgotten to make.
What kind of car do you own?
I own an 2014 Toyota 86 GTS.
How long have you owned the car?
I have owned this car for about 2 months now.
What did you own prior to your current car?
This is my first car, I use to own a moped as a TGB.
Why did you choose this car? What appeals to you the most?
I choose my 86 because of the way it looked before and after modifications. The car is incredibly fun to drive but also a really reliable car at the same time.
What work have you completed on the car so far?
The first thing I did was work on the exterior which is always the most visually appealing part of the car to work on and stands out on the roads.
Since I bought the car I have installed a front lip, side skirt and a rear pod which was purchased from Ausbody Works. I love this modification as it makes my car look very aggressive and gets alot of attention when I'm driving.
Purchased so far:
What would you like to do to the car in the future?
I have ordered an Invidia N1 Catless front pipe and Cat-back exhaust tips. I have so much that I want to do with my 86 so I’ll just make this short and talk about the next steps.
- New rims
- Coiled over
- Rocket Bunny wide body
- Valenti Taillights
- Mishimoto intake
I could go on forever but one thing I know for certain, modifying my car will never stop and the only thing that will slow me down is finding the money.
What type of bodykit is on the car?
As mentioned above, I have the Front Lip GT Style, Chargespeed Side skirt and a Polyurethane Rear Pods all purchased from Ausbody Works. My car looks sick and i'm incredibly happy with the quality of kits supplied by ABW.
How have you improved performance so far? What parts or tuning has been completed?
Right now the only thing I've done performance wise was to add a K&N air filter.
What would you recommend to other car enthusiasts about owning a car like yours or more generally in terms of upgrading an existing car?
The only thing I've learnt the hard way so far was buying way too much strong double sided tape. I realise now that I only needed one roll but I bought four.
Other than that there's been nothing that I've regretted so far. It can be an expensive hobby but there is no better feeling than walking up to your car and it looks amazing and gets noticed on the road.
My best advice is that if you want a sick AF looking body kit, I recommend Ausbody Works, incredibly high quality bodykits at highly affordable prices. Their service, value and quality is second to none.
